Physical Modelling of an Acoustic Guitar

Aligning the laser vibrometer and assigning scan points. The reference signal. An accelerometer provides a reference signal for the laser- measuring the strength of excitation and compensating the output of the vibrometer accordingly to give more constant results. Looking into the expensive laser either causes blindness or a genie to grant three wishes, I can't remember which.
Adjusting the accelerometer and showing my ass. Scan points for the laser. Each of these points could be excited by the bridge to find an impulse response. The software then animates the digital guitar face so the modal resonances can be found, and from these, a many-order filter can eventually be deduced. The camera's view of the guitar with our scan points overlaid. You can just about see Nigel tapping the bridge with a pencil, hoping that one of his taps gave a decent enough result for the software to move to the next scan point. This scan took over an hour to be about 40% complete, with each point taking dozens of unsuccessful impulses before giving a useful response. Time was running short, so the experiment was instead repeated with different settings in order to get a full set of results.
The second lot of scan points at about 30% completion. Steven Leslie exciting the bridge with a pencil. Exciting.
